In Texas, IDs remain valid for voting purposes for four years after the expiration date, and in North Carolina, residents aged 65 or older are able to use expired driver’s licenses if the license expired after they turned 65. For example, in Indiana, voters can use an expired ID if it is dated after the most recent general election, in this case Nov. However, several of those states already have exemptions for allowing voters to use expired driver’s licenses.
Of the 55 states and territories, 39, and Washington, DC, have voter ID requirements, of which 16 states and three territories specifically require the use of a photo ID.
